President's Message:
August
2010
I
hope
you
are
all
enjoying
your
summer.
With
so
many
things
to
do
-
gardening,
canning,
camping,
swimming,
traveling,
etc.
-
there
is
hardly
any
time
or
energy
left
for
quilting.
At
least
we
can
still
think
about
our
favorite
past
time
while
we
are
busy
with
the
rest
of
our
lives
-
finding
the
perfect
color
combination
in
a
wild-flower
or
sunrise,
stopping
at
a
new
quilt
shop
during
that
long
drive,
or
taking
photographs
of
a
stunning
view.
See
you
soon,

Mentoring
Program
for
Guild
Members
Seaport
Quilters’
Guild
welcomes
new
members
but
sometimes
we
fall
short
on
helping
new
people
fit
into
the
organization.
Kathy
Von
Bargen
has
volunteered
to
chair
a
committee
with
the
goal
of
assisting
new
members
learn
the
ropes
in
our
guild.
What
are
comfort
quilts?
What
is
the
block
of
the
month
program
or
the
fat
quarter
drawing
all
about?
And
when
it
comes
to
the
annual
quilt
show,
what
is
a
floor
walker,
a
vendor
coordinator,
admissions
volunteer?
What
are
small
quilting
groups?
What
is
Festival
of
Trees
all
about?
What
do
the
hospitality,
membership,
refreshment
committees
require
of
volunteers?
How
do
you
enter
the
drawing
for
door
prizes
at
the
meetings?
If
I’m
just
a
beginner,
where
can
I
take
basic
classes?
Kathy
invites
any
member
who
is
unsure
of
how
the
guild
operates
to
contact
her
to
be
matched
with
an
experienced
member.
For
long-term
members,
Kathy
would
like
to
hear
from
those
of
you
willing
to
mentor
a
new
person.
Interested
guild
members
are
asked
to
contact
Kathy
by
e-mail
at
kvonbargen@clearwire.net.
Let
her
know
if
you

you
would
like
to
be
one.

Questions
?
?
?
?
Do
you
know
anyone
who
joined
our
guild
in
the
last
few
years
who
does
not
receive
our
newsletter?
We
have
discovered
a
few
members
who
were
not
on
our
membership
list.
We
need
to
make
sure
everyone
is
accounted
for.
Each
and
every
member
is
important
to
us.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Handy
Hints
&
Tips…
When
trying
to
pick
colors
to
go
with
a
primary
design,
check
the
salvage
edge.
Some
materials
have
a
picture
of
different
solid
colors.
These
values
of
colors
will
go
with
your
material.
If
you
do
not
launder
your
fabric
before
quilting,
here
is
a
suggestion
that
sounds
pretty
good.
When
you
give
a
quilt
to
someone
give
them
a
sheet
of
Shout
Color
Catcher
to
put
in
the
washer
the
first
time
they
do
launder
the
project.
It
is
a
good
product
to
catch
color
bleed
in
the
wash.
Comfort
Quilts
We
had
11
completed
tops,
4
that
were
quilted
but
needed
bindings,
1
top
and
a
bag
of
smaller
tops
that
will
just
need
another
border
added
to
them
turned
in
at
the
meeting.
Great
job
and
thanks
for
your
hard
work.
I
just
want
to
remind
everyone
about
the
new
"Finish
a
Kit"
contest.
At
each
meet-ing
I
will
have
a
box
of
pre-cut
kits
that
contain
a
drawing
ticket.
Pick
up
a
kit,
complete
it
(including
quilting
and
binding),
sign
your
ticket
and
bring
it
when
you
turn
in
the
quilt,
and
you'll
be
in
the
drawing
for
a
gift
certificate.
You
can
complete
as
many
of
these
as
you'd
like.
The
drawing
will
be
held
in
February.
If
you
need
backing,
batting,
or
binding,
just
let
me
know
the
size
of
your
top
and
I'll
make
arrangements
to
get
you
some.
Also,
I
have
many
completed
tops
that
are
just
waiting
to
be
quilted.
They
can
even
be
tied
if
quilting's
not
your
thing.
I
need
help
turning
these
tops
into
usable
quilts.
Call
if
you
have
questions.
August
Program
The
program
for
August
will
be
the
showing
of
the
"Around
the
Block"
Round
Robin
completed
projects.
Sign-ups
for
this
project
were
taken
at
October
2009
meeting
and
groups
of
4
or
5
people
were
formed.
It
started
with
each
person
providing
a
simple
grid
drawn
on
batting,
flannel
or
muslin
and
a
theme.
Each
person
made
the
first
block
on
their
grid
and
then
it
proceeded
to
each
other
person
in
the
group
for
a
block
to
be
added
to
help
fill
the
grid.
It
could
be
any
size
the
owner
chose,
but
the
most
workable
sizes
ranged
between
30"
and
40".
It
could
be
square
or
rectangular
and
any
theme
they
wanted
such
as
nature,
garden,
holiday,
seasonal,
patriotic,
etc.
Marcia
Ba-den
will
coordinate
this
program.
It
will
be
an
interesting
program
to
see
how
each
project
developed
and
the
end
result.
